Soroptimist International of Red Bluff, a global organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment, presented a $750.00 Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women to help a local woman improve her economic situation. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the award was presented outside on the steps of the former Red Bluff County Courthouse.
Recipient Amanda Holman, 33, will use the cash award to complete her associate’s degree at Shasta College, where she is majoring in business administration. Once she completes her studies, Holman intends to continue on for a Bachelor’s degree.
“I once thought college was something unattainable for myself, but the opportunity arose and I am so grateful …Going to Shasta College not only allows me to reach my educational goals, but it also allows me to be an example to my young children in the process..”
The Live Your Dream Award provides women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families with the financial resources to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. The award can be used for tuition, books, childcare, carfare or any other education-related expense.
The Red Bluff Soroptimists chose Holman because of her optimistic attitude, her high grade-point-average in college and the excellent recommendations she received. Holman has been raising two children on the money she earns working.
